It is with great sadness that the family of Joaquín Asevedo announces his passing on Friday, May 1, 2026. Joaquín was born on June 9, 1939, to Juan and Guadalupe Asevedo. Joaquín served in the United States Navy as a Fleet Composite Squadron Three, DET ALFA.
Joaquín was a simple, amazing man who always put family first. He was patient, soft-spoken, loving, and compassionate. Joaquín loved and adored his family and ensured they never lacked love, support, or anything they needed. Joaquín brought so much joy, warmth, and love into the lives around him.
Joaquín loved the outdoors, especially gardening and the quiet beauty of nature. The garden was a place of peace, creativity, and connection to nature. He would spend hours outside, perfecting every detail of his yard. He loved spending time with family as much as he loved gardening. Joaquín looked forward to family time, dinners, or any opportunity to gather with those he loved. He was a great listener and would embrace the stories as he had stories of his own to share.
Joaquín built a career in the construction industry, working for Brown & Root and TIC. In later years, Joaquín ’s service to the community took a different form. He retired as a custodian at the Senior Citizens Center in Silver City. Joaquín took pride in his role in creating a welcoming, clean, and safe environment reflecting the same care and respect he showed in all aspects of his life.
As a devoted Catholic, Joaquín approached every day with love, faith, and charity and demonstrated his faith with diligence and kindness.
Joaquín is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Guadalupe Asevedo, his brother and sister-in-law, Augustine and Lorenza Asevedo, niece Martha Asevedo, his beloved uncle Florentino "Tino" Marquez, and his stepdaughter Ruth Ortiz Gonzales Jurado.
Joaquín is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Margarita Ortiz Gonzales Asevedo, three adopted children, Miguel Angel Gonzales Asevedo, Anthony Robert Gonzales Asevedo, and Analisa Lorraine Gonzales Asevedo. His niece, Lupita Asevedo Caballero, and his stepchildren, Macedonio Jesus Gonzales, JoAnn Legarda (Husband Ernest), Patricia Abeyta, Robert Gonzales (Wife Annette), Joseph Gonzales (wife Rose), and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews".
