Jose J. Salaiz, 96 of Bayard passed away October 1, 2020 at his daughter’s home in Arenas Valley, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be on October 6, 2020 from 10 to 11 am at Santa Clara Catholic Church. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 11 am with the Funeral Liturgy following at 11:30 am. Concluding service and burial will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with military honor accorded by the United States Navy and Marine Corp League. Officiating will be Father Casmir Anozie.
Jose was born May 11, 1924 in San Juan, NM to Jose and Anastacia Jimenez Salaiz. Jose served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and had worked and retired from Kennecott Copper Corporation as a miner and as a warehouse floorman. Jose had also owned and operated the Smokehouse Bar from 1962 -1969 and previously he had also managed the Copper Rose Bar in San Juan. Jose was quite the handyman, helping family and friends with any construction projects, big or small. Jose was also a member of the Catholic Church. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jose is survived by one daughter, Sylvia Ojinaga (Rudy Castillo); three sons, Michael Salaiz (Toni), Steve Salaiz, and David Salaiz; two brothers, Bernie Salaiz and Manuel Salaiz; two sisters, Elisa Gonzales and Aurelia Cordova; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, and Daniel Ojinaga, Lacey, Amalia and Robert Salaiz; three great grandchildren, Maya and Mikayla Ojinaga and Gavin Salaiz. Jose was preceded in death by his first wife Corina; his second wife Annie and a daughter Olivia Salaiz.
Pallbearers will be; Jon, Ben and Daniel Ojinaga, Rudy Castillo, Rubie Misquez and Mike Hernandez.
