Jose "Tony" Rivera Obituary

Jose Antonio “Tony” Rivera, 87, a resident of Silver City raised in Pinos Altos, who entered eternal rest on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Grace Adult Care in Albuquerque, NM with his loving children at his side. 

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Monday, February 12, 2024 at ten o’clock in the morning led by Deacon Bill Holguin at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  Officiating will be Father Oliver Obele.  Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Acosta, Justin Chavez, Stephen Chavez, Javier Gonzales, Patrick Rotell, Terrence Rotell.  Honorary bearers listed are Jeffrey Angulo, Andrew Armendariz, Arthur Chavez, Miguel Ogas, Gilbert Rivera, Louis Rivera, Ray Rivera Timothy Rotell and Jason Samsow.

Tony was born on July 11, 1936, in Silver City to Estevan Rivera and Angela (Montoya) Rivera.  Tony was an SP4 US Army Veteran serving 2 years at Fort Sill, OK.  He worked at various Ranches and Mines and retired with the Grant County Road Department. He was a man of integrity and was devoted to his family supporting them at every sporting event during their High School years. He was a cowboy at heart loved spending time in the Gila Wilderness with his horses hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice Rivera, brothers, Petronilo, Jose Louis and Ramon Rivera and Sisters Beatriz Sanchez and Virginia Salaiz. Tony is survived by his son, James Rivera and wife Sarah of Silver City; daughter Elizabeth Ann Perea and husband Edward of Albuquerque; nephews Richard “Bodie” Chavez and Ray Rivera, nieces, Malena Zaragoza and Renee Rivera. His grandchildren Drenda Rivera (Jason Samsow) of Aurora, CO; Tiffany Armendariz (Andrew) of Roswell; Megan Perea (Jeffrey Angulo) of Yuma, AZ; Bianca Rivera of Silver City and Allyson Perea of Albuquerque.  He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Audrina, Caleb, Emily and Ava Armendariz, Landon Angulo, Layla Rose Rivera and one on the way.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Adam and Melissa Dooley at Grace Adult Care and Ambercare Hospice staff for compassion, love and dignity given to our father in his final days.
