Josie (Pepa) Sanchez Elizalde, 81, of Santa Clara passed away October 9, 2024 at Mesilla Valley Hospice & Palliative Center.
“Pepa” as she was fondly known, was born June 1, 1943 in Faywood, New Mexico to Francisco (Frank) and Soledad (Chole) Sanchez.
Josie loved life and spending time with Avelino and Teresa and anyone else who cared to join them. All she desired from family was love, as she had plenty to give.
At Josie’s request, cremation has taken place. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Silver City. The Funeral Liturgy will follow immediately thereafter. Concluding service and inurnment will follow at the Hurley Cemetery where she will be laid to rest near her mother. Officiating will be Father Martin Okonkwo.
Josie is survived by her brother Avelino Sanchez, and sisters Rosemary Sanchez, Teresa Madrid (Bernie). daughters Susan (Joe) Dominguez, Veronica (Scott) Van Patten, Dora (David) Valles, and Rachel (Bobby) Couch, sister-in-law Bonnie Sanchez; and son-in-law, Sam Escareño.
Jody Ortiz, her caregiver, was family to Josie as she gave her loving care and friendship. She went over and above to make Josie comfortable, safe and happy.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, in-laws, brothers and sisters-in-law, husband Miguel, her daughter Melissa Escareño, her grandson, Steven Escareño, and her very loving friend and special partner Pete Palomarez Sr; as well as many other family and friends.
