Juana B. Madrid

Juana B. Madrid, 98, of Bayard passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels. A Graveside Service and Inurnment will take place at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Hurley Cemetery in Hurley, NM where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband, Alfredo M. Madrid. Father Martin Okonkwo of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will officiate.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jacob Lawrence, James Lawrence, James Lawrence Jr., Dominic Ortiz, Joseph Rodriguez, and Anthony LaBadie.

Juana was born October 20, 1924 to Jose Borunda and Marina Ordones in San Miguel, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the youngest of her four siblings, Belen Muniz, her sister and best friend; brothers, Ramon, Santos, and Jimmy Borunda. She left a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was known for her beautiful crocheting, reading, and her love for all of her children and grandchildren, but perhaps what endeared Juana to so many was her capacity for compassion, her unwavering support, and her ability to bring joy to those around her with her beautiful laugh. She cherished her time with family and friends, creating lasting memories that will forever be treasured. She was a pillar of strength during difficult times, offering her wisdom and love to those in need.

Juana is preceded in death by her husband, Alfredo M. Madrid and son, William “Bill” Madrid.

Juana is survived by her daughters, Cecilia Lawrence of Bayard, Luisa Espinosa of Arvada, CO, and Barbara Tinsley; grandchildren, Virginia "Gina" LaBadie (Anthony), James Lawrence Sr. (Tanya), Jacob Lawrence (Janelle), Richelle Rodriguez (Joseph), Kathy Espinosa, Sandra Cazales (Salvador), Peaches Espinosa, Jenny Tinsley and Erica Tinsley; two special nieces, Corina Sandoval and Isabel “Chavela” Salas, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
