Judith "Judy" Marie (Hicks) Welch

JUDITH MARIE WELCH, 86, Deming resident passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at her home. Judy as she was fondly known as was born in Inglewood, CA, on June 15, 1936 to Milton and Mary (Coates) Hicks.

She is survived by her son, Stephen R. Welch, and his wife Rashmi; her 4 grandchildren, Kenneth Welch, Peyton Kokaly, Jerid (Welch) Sapp, Kyle Welch and his wife Leeann and their son, Judy’s great-grandson, Gideon. She is also survived by her nephew, Gary Boyer, and his wife Kelly and their two children, Sara, and Daniel.

Judy met her husband Carroll while working at Librascope in Glendale, CA. After marrying in 1958, their first adventure together was an extended camping trip through the Pacific Northwest to Alaska. They began their married life in Los Angeles, where their children Stephen and Kristina were born. Their next adventure was in 1969, when the family settled in La Veta, CO, where Judy and Carroll built their own home with an orchard, vegetable garden, and a beautiful view of the Spanish Peaks. In 1996, Judy and Carroll retired to Deming, NM, where they pursued their dream of volunteer avocational archaeology. Judy was an avid supporter of the Deming Arts Center, on whose board she served for over 20 years. She and Carroll were married for 59 years. 

Judy will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
