Julie Martinez Obituary

Julie (July) V. Martinez was called home by her Lord and Savior on November 26th, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. She gave a valiant battle for 18 months against not one but two types of cancer and at the end decided to enjoy her last days with her children and grandchildren.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 at 11 am led by Deacon Bill Holguin.  Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her numerous uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Julie was born in Silver City, NM on January 4th, 1954 to Jimmy and Lupe Jones. She worked for K-Mart as a Department Manager for 20 years and when the store closed, she made a transition to the maintenance department at Western New Mexico University, from which she retired after 18 years. Julie enjoyed listening to music, especially country, Garth Brooks and George Strait were her favorites. She also enjoyed going to the Hideaway, to listen to Spanish music and dance the night away, she loved to dance the cumbias!  In her retirement, Julie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as they were her life!

Julie is survived by her parents, Jimmy and Lupe Jones; husband, Tommy Munoz; sons, Armando Sapien (Connie), and Andrew M. Lopez; daughter, April D. Hernandez; sisters, Anita "Nini" Rios (Tommy), Cynthia "C.J." Jones (Ida); nephew Tommy Rios (Flor); nieces, Vanessa Cardenas (Jacinto), Sonia Carbajal; grandchildren, Isaac, Riley, Jemma, Tiffany, Aaron, Tasha (Catalina), James, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Taylem, Xavier & Bella; great-nieces, Caroline, Deziraye, Jordin, Jaelynn, Azalea; great-nephews, Gilbert, Brendan, Sal Jr., Santiago, Jacinto Jr.  She was preceded in death by her grandma, Sarah Vasquez; uncles, Alfredo and Tony Martinez, Henry "Kiki" Morales, Arturo "Magoo" Morales; aunt, Reina Rios; sister, Brenda D. Carbajal; special cousin, Esther "Nona" Mares.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in Julie's name.
