Lance Maxwell Obituary

Lance Warner Maxwell, a long-time resident of Deming, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, surrounded by close family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at The First Christian Church with Pastor Michael O’Donnell officiating on Thursday, October 16th at 1 pm.

Lance was born on January 5, 1940, in New Westminster, British Columbia, to Ross and Lorill (Percy) Maxwell. He has been a resident of Deming since 1985, having previously lived in California. Lance worked in various jobs that showcased his creativity and problem-solving skills. In California, he and his mother created and repaired jewelry. In Deming, he worked at Radio Shack, where he was instrumental in assisting customers with their technical needs. He played a key role in creating the first digital maps of Luna County for the Enhanced 911 system while working as a Purchasing Agent for Luna County. His meticulous attention to detail and technical expertise laid the groundwork for what would become the Next Generation 911 system. Lance performed the revisions and trained the staff of the Luna County Business office on the new procedures when the State of New Mexico switched the budgeting process and payroll system from Lotus 1-2-3 to Excel.

In his spare time, Lance enjoyed movies, bowling, taking care of his yard, and gardening. He was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed participating in church activities. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Church’s Precious Jewels program and yard sales. His family and friends remember him as a jack of all trades and a man of action; when he saw a need, he was quick to offer his problem-solving skills and come up with creative solutions.

Lance is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Maxwell of Deming; stepchildren: Tom Jeglinski, Chris Jeglinski, James Paul Moore (Jennifier), and William (Bill) Arthur Moore (Denise); daughters Leah Maxwell and Melady Maxwell; and sister Arleigh Hillstrom (E.J.). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kimberly Lewallen (Moore) (Tim), Kristin McCardle (Moore) (Randy), and Johnathan Moore; and great-grandchildren: Kaiden McCardle, Murphy McCardle, and Scarlett Lewallen.

Lance Warner Maxwell will be remembered for his generosity, creativity, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
