Larry Curt Phifer passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Hacienda's Grace Village in Las Cruces. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.
Larry was born on January 25, 1939 in El Paso to Cecil and Miriam Phifer. They soon moved to Silver City, and were lifelong residents. Larry became childhood friends with Neil Parrish, and the two remained friends and business partners for life. Larry played the clarinet in high school and college band. As an adult, Larry ran the Sunbeam Bread Company in the Grant County area and then joined Parrish Tires Company until retirement. He also started a joint venture called Terra Products/US Four Inc., and mined bat guano starting in 1976 into the 1980s in Hidalgo County and sold it as fertilizer.
Larry was also active in the local Jaycees and became Vice President in 1969. He later became a member of the Silver City Masonic Lodge #8 and was named Worshipful Master in 1978. He will be remembered for his upbeat attitude and respectful treatment of all. He worked hard his whole life and was always willing to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his children, Jerry Phifer and Gini (Phifer) Borst, granddaughter Erin Myers, and 3 great grandchildren.
