LeaAnn Cook Obituary

LeaAnn G. Cook, 49, of Silver City, New Mexico, chose in her own way, that her work here on earth was done, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.  Born on November 4, 1975, at Socorro Memorial Hospital and lovingly raised in the rural Aragon, New Mexico.  LeaAnn’s compassion, creativity and radiance touched countless lives young and old.

Incredibly approachable and non-judgmental, LeaAnn could easily identify with anyone, but her infectious smile and lightning quick humor will be her signature.  Phenomenally creative in almost every art medium, she was a natural in photography, painting, quilting, carding and spinning wool, felting, gardening and cooking.

LeaAnn’s life was that of selfless service and dedication.  After graduating from Reserve High School in 1994, she pursued an Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy, working at Ft Bayard Hospital for 5 years and then returning to college to pursue a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education, and afterward teaching Kindergarten for 5 years at Harrison Schmidt Elementary.  Again, she returned to college to obtain her interdisciplinary Master’s Degree in Art, Writing and Education.  She was currently teaching elementary art at Stout Elementary, being honored by Silver Consolidated Schools in 2025, as “Teacher of the Year“.

LeaAnn met her husband of 29 years, Daniel Cook in 1993, and they married in 1994. Their daughter, Mia, born in 2009, became the heart of their home.

LeaAnn is survived by her husband, Daniel Cook; her daughter, Mia Cook; her parents, Herman and Esther Gutierrez; her sister, Monica Gutierrez; her brother, Joaquin Gutierrez; and numerous extended family.

A celebration of LeaAnn’s life will be held at 10:00AM in Aragon, NM at the Santo Nino Church on Saturday, July 12, 2025, burial to follow at the Gutierrez family private cemetery with a reception afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stout Elementary Art Program, a cause close to LeaAnn’s heart.

LeaAnn G. Cook was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her legacy of creativity, compassion, and joy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
