Luisa Montaño Quarrell, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Santa Clara, NM. She was born August 19, 1932, to Eusebio and Maria Montaño in Deming, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eusebio, and Maria; her brothers, Anthony, Manny, and Ralph; a sister, Lola Valverde, and her son, Mike A. Quarrell. She is survived by her sons, Eddie, Danny (Bernadette) and Frankie (Betty) all of Silver City, NM; her younger brother, Victor “Chapo” Montaño of Deming, NM and her baby sister, Annie Camuñez (Freddie) of Concord, CA and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members.
Luisa was very proud of the fact that at 54 years of age, she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Western New Mexico University in May of 1987. She was employed, until her retirement, with the Cobre Consolidated Schools as a school social worker within their Special Education Department. Luisa was also a longtime member of LULAC Council 8003 in Silver City, NM and cherished the friendships she had with her fellow members over the years.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 5:30pm till 6:00pm at Baca’s Funeral Chapel (811 S. Gold Ave, Deming, NM 88030), followed by the Recitation of the Holy Rosary, which will be recited by Eucharistic Minister Tony Quarrell, at 6:00pm. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00am, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church (400 S. Ruby St, Deming, NM 88030), followed by the final internment at Mountain View Cemetery (3410 E. Pine St, Deming, NM 88030).
Pallbearers include her grandsons and honorary pallbearers include all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
