Obituary

Lydia R Arzola, of Bayard, passed away, August 15, 2023 in Las Cruces at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her family. 

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at Six o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. The Funeral Liturgy will be at Nine-thirty in the morning on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard.  The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Antonio.  Officiating will be Father Martin Okonkwo.  Serving as casket bearers will be Tony Arzola III, Michael Arzola, Ray Silva Jr., Carbajal, Ronald “Guerro” Carbajal, Carlos Lucero Jr., Manuel Lucero. Serving as honorary pallbearers are, Randy Silva, Andrew Carbajal, Gabriel Arzola, Paul Arzola, Patrick Lucero and Joseph Arzola. Also included are all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Lydia was born March 23, 1937 in Santa Rita, NM to Manuel and Maria Salas, Rivera. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and involved in both the Guadalupanas and Cursillistas. She also worked for several years as a caregiver for Coordinated Care Inc. Lydia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family first. She made her home a place where not only her family came for love and support, but for anyone that came to know her. Her comforting spirit will be greatly missed by many. 

She is survived by her sons, Eddie Arzola, Antonio “Tony” Arzola III; daughters, Diane A Silva, Dolores A Lucero (Carlos), Barbara A Carbajal (David) and Maria D Arzola; daughter-in-law Irene Arzola; three sisters, Carmen Rodriguez, Josie Gallardo, and Bertha Muniz. Also surviving her are her 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lydia is preceded in death by her husband, Antonio “Paco” Arzola Sr., son, Antonio “Paco” Arzola Jr., brothers, Manuel Rivera Jr., and Rudy Gutierrez, and a grandson, Carlos Lucero.
