Manuel Holguin Obituary

Manuel Madrid Holguin, 90, an Army veteran, of Bayard passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

A Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Prayer Vigil led by Deacon Bill Holguin will begin at six o’clock in the evening on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Silver City. The Funeral Mass will begin at twelve-thirty in the afternoon on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Father Bhastati Sudhakar will officiate. The Rite of Committal and Interment with full military honors will take place at one o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. The concluding services will be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/manuel-holguin.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Javier Jr. Holguin, Aaron Holguin, Matthew Holguin, Andrew Munoz, Alec Holguin, and Roman Holguin.

Manuel was born May 31, 1934 in Santa Rita, NM to Ramona Madrid and Jose Holguin. Following graduation from high school, Manuel enlisted in the United States Army. He made a career in the mining industry driving trucks for the local mines throughout his life. He was a self-described ‘jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none’. Manuel appreciated the simple life. He was a constant seeker of knowledge and an avid reader. He was a self-taught welder, carpenter, plumber, mechanic, electrician and a wearer of many other hats. Manuel found joy in music and art, he could play any instrument at which he tried his hand. His loved ones will forever hold fond memories of learning songs from him. His humility and mighty presence have left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him. Manuel was the nucleus of his family, earning him the family nickname, “Superman’. Above all, Manuel will be remembered as a generous, selfless and highly intelligent man whose knowledge and wisdom could be called upon by anyone in need.

Manuel is survived by his son, Raul ‘Bully’ Holguin (Danielle), their children, Aaron, Roman, Alec and Kyleen Holguin; son, Michael Vasquez; daughter, Arcilia Holguin and sons, Anthony, Andrew and Paul Muñoz; daughter, Yvonne ‘Bonnie’ Holguin, daughters, Amber Apodaca and Kayla Gonzales; daughter, Senaida ‘Sandy’ Holguin (Victor Romero) and her daughter, Maia Mesa; daughter, Yvonne Carrillo, and children Justin, Jason, and Jeremy Carrillo and Dezarae Hall. He is also survived by his son, Javier’s, children, Marissa Gomez, Javier Jr., and Matthew; twenty-six great-grandchildren and 1 great-greatgrandchild. Additionally, Manuel is survived by his brothers, Arnuldo Holguin (Rosemary), Richard ‘Rico’ Holguin (Lorraine) Louie Holguin (Cecilia); sister, Aurora ‘Yoya’ Marin and many, many nieces and nephews.

Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Ramona Holguin; son, Javier Holguin; brothers, Guillermo Holguin, Robert Holguin, and Reynaldo Holguin; sister, Clorinda Padilla and one sister who passed away very young, Velia Holguin.
