Maria Baca Chavez

Maria Baca Chavez, 99, of Silver City passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

Maria was born November 1, 1925 in Silver City, New Mexico to Josefa Arroyos and Julio Baca. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and aunt who was strongly devoted to her family and friends.

Visitation will take place at five o’clock in the evening on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Silver City. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Prayer Vigil will begin at six o’clock led by Deacon Bill Holguin. The Funeral Mass will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Saint Vincent de Paul Cemetery. Father Oliver Obele will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Rick Chavez, Andrea Chavez, Alexa Chavez, Manuel Lucero, Carlos Lucero, and Mario Flores.

Honorary Pallbearers are her many nieces and nephews.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Julio Chavez; siblings, Nellie Leyba, Julian Baca, Tomas Baca, Frances Orosco, Albert Baca, Ben Baca, and Josie Madrid.

She is survived by her son, Rick Chavez (Eloisa) and granddaughters Andrea and Alexa Chavez; daughter, Priscilla Lucero (Manuel) and grandson, Carlos (Michele) Lucero.
