Martha Barraza of Bayard, NM passed away peacefully on March 6, 2020 at the age of 72. Martha was born on July 7, 1947 to Ramon and Ramona Barraza in Santa Maria Del Oro, Durango, Mexico. As a teenager, Martha joined the Job Corps and graduated from the Cleveland Job Corps Center for Women. Once she graduated, she came back to Bayard and worked at Bailey’s for many years. Later she moved to Phoenix where she worked for the Isaac School District as a parent liaison for ten years. Once she retired from the Isaac School District, she came back to Bayard to be with her family.
Martha is survived by her mother, Ramona Barraza, brother Marco Barraza (Eva), three sisters, Bertha Espinosa, Lupe Barraza-Escarcega (Jose), Lucy Gurrola (Hector), a special God-daughter Kandice Barraza, and many nephews and nieces that were like her own children. She was preceded in death by her father Ramon Barraza who passed away in 2003 and her brother, Jose Ramon (Pepe) Barraza who passed in 2019.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Tony Barraza, Jose Escarcega, Hector Gurrola, Rocky Gurrola, Luis Roacho, and Luis Alfredo Roacho. Public Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 5 o’clock in the evening followed by a Rosary recited by Deacon Art Gutierrez at 6:00 p.m. at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 11 o’clock in the morning. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at Hurley Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Martin Okonkwo.
