Martin Vina Gamez, 74, a longtime resident of Las Cruces, NM peacefully passed away in his home on March 28, 2021. Born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico on July 2, 1946 to Esteban Gamez and Francisca Avina.
He grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico and later moved to Grant County, New Mexico, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Marquez Gamez, to whom he was married to for over 30 years. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather and a devoted member of The Roman Catholic Church.
Early in life Martin was a construction worker; skilled in carpentry, masonry, painting and home building. Later he worked in field of agriculture in the New Mexico chili pepper industry in Hatch, NM and with Gilroy and Conagra Foods in Las Cruces for over 20 years until his retirement. After his retirement he spent his time with his wife and grandchildren, he enjoyed reading, music, and Mexican food. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Martin is survived by his Son- Eric Marquez Gamez and wife Veronica and Granddaughters- Anastasia “Ana" Gamez, Gabriella Elwell and Sophia Gamez of Albuquerque, NM, other survivors include several nephews and nieces and numerous great nephews and nieces. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, sisters and his wife.
Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels in Las Cruces, NM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday April 16, 2021 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City where he will be laid to rest. Officiating will be Father Oliver Obele.
