Mary Ann Calloway Obituary

MaryAnn Calloway passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 26 of 2026 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 87. MaryAnn was born on February 13, 1939, to Milo and Mary Rowley in Parowan, Utah, where she grew up. As a teenager in 1956 she got the opportunity to work at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and her life got much better then and then in her second season working there she met the love of her life Billy Ray Calloway, She knew right then he was the one, after only three days of meeting they both quit their jobs and traveled to Silver City New Mexico where they were married on September 5, 1958 and started their new life‘s adventure. MaryAnn and Billy Ray built a loving family and raised four children, they lived in New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.

She is survived by her brother Roy Rowley and sister Ruth Locy, her children, Danny Calloway (Charlene), and their children Shad Calloway (Suzette), Matt Calloway (Amanda) and their children Temperance and Calvin, Christopher Calloway (Veronica) and their daughter Dominique; Clayton Calloway (Shelly), their son Devin and his children Jessi, Jaslee, C J and Camden; Lailonie Hyatt (Tim) and their children Seth Hyatt (Stephanie) and their children, Sean, Stephen, Spencer and Silas, Samuel Hyatt (Megan) and their children, Liam, Vonn, Jamisen and Mia. Rebecca Theye (Nathen) and their children Simon, Cody and Justin; (Little) Bill Calloway (Diana), and their children Joshua Calloway, Audrey Marchiano (Riely), and their children Elouise, and Hudson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Claire Rowley, sister Joyce Muir and grandson David Lee Calloway and the love of her life Billy Ray Calloway.

MaryAnn had a life that was dedicated to her family and serving others, especially through her work at Wal-Mart. She loved to create things through sewing; it was something that always kept her busy and we all know how she loved being busy! She enjoyed watching the quail come in to the feeders and she was very protective of the quail, just as she was to her children and grandchildren. When she learned about her cancer she asked the doctors one question, “when can I go back to work” and she did return to work for a short period of time until she couldn’t do it anymore. So, she wasted no time going into retirement and then straight into hospice care within a month, she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a funeral service at Baca’s Funeral Chapel at 3805 Delk Dr., Silver City New Mexico, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 8 of 2026.

The family would like to thank Ambercare Hospice for keeping her comfortable in her last days.

In lieu of flowers the family ask for a donation in her honor be made to the American Cancer fund, americancancerfund.org, as we have lost both of our parents to cancer.
