Mercy Aquino

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mercy Aquino, age 83, of Lordsburg, NM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Peoria, AZ. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mercy was born on September 24, 1941, to Jose and Paula Aquino in Lordsburg, NM.

She graduated from Lordsburg High School and moved away for a short time before returning to Lordsburg where she lived the rest of her life. Mercy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She worked at the El Charro Restaurant until she retired. Mercy loved to “chit chat” and visit with everyone she came across while running her errands, whether at the grocery store or paying bills. She found great joy in the simple things, spending time with her family, long phone conversations with her best friend, Martha, cooking for her family. She couldn’t wait for football season to start as she loved to watch football. She was an avid reader, and she passed her love of reading on to her daughters and granddaughters. Mercy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.

Services for Mercy will be held Friday, September 26, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Visitation at 10:00 am, Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10:30 am and the Funeral Mass will follow immediately thereafter. Interment will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers will be Rudy Grado, Fernando Aquino Jr., Mario Aquino, Joe Costa, Scott Harris and Paul Aquino.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Grado (Rudy) of Peoria, AZ and Tina Chavarria of Peoria, AZ. Her granddaughters, Larissa Grado of Peoria, AZ and Jessica Costa (Joe) of Scottsdale, AZ. Her sisters, Rose Mirabal of San Diego, CA, Linda Chavez of La Mirada, CA; brothers, Fernando Aquino of Las Cruces, NM and John Aquino of Lordsburg, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucy Aquino of Lordsburg, NM, and her brothers, Hipolito Aquino of Chandler, AZ and Francisco Aquino of Lordsburg, NM.
