Nadine Matthews

Nadine Matthews, 85, of Silver City passed away September 9, 2022. 

She was born August 22, 1937 to Mitchell and Leonorah Bowan in Silver City, New Mexico.  She was the 10^th out of 12 children.  Nadine` grew up and attended school in Silver City. While attending Western High School she met her best friend and love of her life, David Matthews.  He joined the Navy.  They married on February 22, 1956 and she finished high school then joined him in San Diego.

They were blessed with three children, Deborah of Silver City, Steve (Julie) of Colorado, and Christopher (April) of Pinos Altos.  They lived in California, Colorado, Arizona and in 1967 moved back to Grant County to raise their children. They had 50 wonderful years together before he died in his sleep in 2006.  Nadine was blessed with seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren who she absolutely loved and was so proud of.  She was very active in many organizations, and activities.  Her Favorites were spending time at the Senior Center, playing bridge and the widow persons.  She had so many wonderful friends and loved spending time with them.  Many of her friends remember her laughter and “giggle”.  Nadine was a wonderful mother and friend and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date, when she and David will be inurned at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.
