Patricia "Tricia" Matthews Obituary

Patricia Sue (Uzueta) Matthews, 59, was born on May 25, 1966, in Deming, New Mexico. She passed away on May 2, 2026, after a very long and admirable fight battling Ovarian Cancer. She was surrounded by her family and with an abundance of love from everyone who knew her.

Tricia was preceded in death by both of her parents, Mabel and Richard Uzueta. Also, by her brothers Richard (Rick) Uzueta Jr., and David (Donut) Uzueta, all of which we know have welcomed her to heaven with their arms wide open and more than likely they all got to baking together once again.

Tricia was survived by her devoted husband Donald Matthews who cared for her deeply and very wholeheartedly. He never left her side, and our family couldn't have asked for a better partner to be in not only her life but ours as well. She is also survived by her sister ‘seester’ Eva Mendez (Joe), and her brother Timothy Uzueta (Cheryl).

Tricia was selfless and devoted her whole entire life to making sure that her children Aaron Uzueta (Sayra), Renee Begay (Danaman), Annette Garcia (Brian), and Adam Uzueta (Corinna) were always provided, cared for, and loved. This also continued onto her grandchildren: Andrew (Aneshea), Noah, Bailey, Dominic, Kaine, Luke, Aarianni, Aubri, Kye, Addisyn, and Erin. Her latest blessing is the welcoming of her great-granddaughter Yanelli.

Aside from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was well known as the favorite aunt to all her nieces and nephews: Celeste, Tanya, Katie, Julian, Richard, Estrella, Linda-Rae, and David Ray Jr.

Tricia made sure that everyone around her was deeply cared for and loved and had lasting friendships and memories with many. She has always been cared for by two of her greatest friends, Yolanda and Elva.

We will all miss Tricia tremendously forever but plan to live out and honor a lasting legacy for her. In lieu of flowers, our family please asks that donations be made on her behalf to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

A rosary will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 10:00 am at Baca’s Funeral Chapel, followed by the rite of committal and inurnment at Mountain View Cemetery. Deacon Bill Holguin will be officiating. We are encouraging everyone to wear purple in honor of her.
