Paul Juergens Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY

PAUL JUERGENS

1924-2021

Paul Juergens’ favorite Bible passage was “’Not by might nor by power, but my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Zech 4.6, and he lived by these words faithfully. Paul, a religious man, passed away on July 14, 2021 peacefully and surrounded by his sons, Kenneth “Kenny” Juergens, Scott Sasser, and Kregg Sasser, after a short and brave battle against cancer. His son, Kenny has been totally devoted to his care during the past few months. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Neville Juergens, who passed away in 2006, who, we are sure, welcomed him to Heaven with loving and open arms.

Paul had a rich and loving life. He was born in Ladysmith, Wisconsin in 1924 and worked for the FAA most of his life, where he retired from. Paul made Deming, NM his home in 1961 from Roswell, NM, and where he met the love of his life: Neville Juergens. He married Neville on April 1973 and was a wonderful and loving husband until her passing. Paul was a wonderful father, grandfather, and father-in-law. He welcomed everyone with open doors, a strong embrace, and a shaking laughter. Paul comes from a very large family and he was fluent in German-his parents, Louis and Wilhelmina, immigrants from Germany, had fourteen children. Minnie Chamberlain, Marie Baughman, and Louis Juergens are his surviving siblings.

Paul was also an adventurous man: few know that he was proud owner of a small plane during his young days and served in the Army from 1949 to 1951. He moved to sunny New Mexico because he was “done with the snow”, in his own words. He grew up in a homestead on a valley, complete with a beautiful and traditional red barn, true to American tradition and he brought it with him: he raised chickens, goats and cultivated a vegetable garden on his property for many years and was active and beloved member of his community. With his wife, he helped many people in need through the years. Paul was a very special soul, deeply devoted to the Lord to the very end and with standards that are truly above average. By doing so, he built a vibrant life, filled with love. Lucky all of us who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends.

A graveside service will take place Wednesday July 21, 2021 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Mountain View Cemetery. Pastor Ramon Montanez will officiate of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
