Pedro R Ortiz, 80 of Silver City, passed away December 25, 2020 at Gila Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 am on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 am. The Rite of Committal and burial will be at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be Daniel Ortiz, Joey Ortiz, Charles Ortiz, Matthew Ortiz, Alfred Pas, Adriana Pas, Aaron Davila, Aaron Davila Jr. and Sammy Ortiz.
Pedro was born October 21, 1940 in Santa Rita, NM to Pedro and Rita Ramirez Ortiz. He had served his country honorably in the United States Army and continued serving with the United States Marines. Upon his return he enlisted and served int the United States National Guard. Pedro worked as an underground miner in New Mexico and moved and retired from the Nevada Test Site in 1991. He was a devote Catholic and was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.
Pedro is survived by his wife Mariana; three sons, Pete Ortiz Jr. (Yvette) of San Lorenzo, Michael Ortiz of Las Vegas, NV, and David Ortiz (Elizabeth) of Silver City; one daughter, Melissa Ortiz of Silver City; one brother, Robert Ortiz of San Lorenzo; one sister, Dolores Torres (Jerry) of California; 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Pedro was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Rita Ramirez Ortiz; sisters, Lucy Salaiz, Velia Ortiz; a son, Sammy Ray Ortiz; and two grandchildren, Nichole Ortiz and David Ortiz, Jr. (missing).
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 25% of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church capacity is allowed, face masks are required and social distancing is enforced.
