Rees Madsen Obituary

Rees Low Madsen, 83, passed away on May 6, 2023  in Provo, Utah. He was born on December 26, 1939 in Yerington, Nevada to Clyde and Rose Madsen.

Rees grew up in a small town south of Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from Tucson High School.  After high school he joined  the United States Navy and served for 4 years. He spent several years aboard the USS Sabalo, a submarine that traveled all over the South Pacific.

Shortly after his discharge Rees met his future wife Cynthia Ambrose working at a J.M. Fields Department Store in Gainesville, Florida.  She worked as a manager and he worked in the stock room.  They married on December 16, 1965 and soon moved to the western United States. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple May 13, 1966.

Rees went on to finish his education graduating from the University of Arizona.  After graduation, he was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  Cynthia and Rees moved often, working on different National Wildlife Refuges in the west, the last being in southern Arizona. Upon retirement in June of 2000, they settled in Silver City.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Rees righteously served in many different callings throughout his life.  He also served as a temple worker in the Gila Valley Arizona Temple. He loved the gospel, which was apparent by how faithfully he lived his life.   Rees enjoyed reading, bird watching, playing songs on his harmonica, serving others, spending time in nature, taking walks and reminiscing about his childhood.

Rees was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia; his parents Clyde and Rose Madsen and his brother James Madsen.

He leaves behind his three nieces and two nephews; Chris (Michele) Madsen, Jason (Lisa) Madsen, Leah Madsen, Amy (Casey) Smallwood and Renae Madsen; his great nieces and nephews, Schuyler, Abby, Dagger, Wyatt, Cody, Stella, Spencer and Ivy.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, May 22nd at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3755 N Swan Street, Silver City, New Mexico 88061. Rees will be laid to rest at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.
