Richard L. Hughes, 66, longtime Deming resident passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 10 to 11 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will then be recited at 11 led by Yolanda Forbes. The Funeral Mass will follow at 12 noon with Fr. Prakasham Babu, pastor officiating. Cremation will follow the services and has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
Richard was born February 24, 1957 in Borger, TX to Jimmy and Dorothy Lee (Wilks) Hughes. He was very involved in the catholic church and served the church in many positions. Richard was a catechist teacher at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, president of the parish council of Holy Family Catholic Church for 4 years, Knight of Columbus (St. Joseph’s Council) of St. Ann’s, the Apostolado – Sacred Heart also at St. Ann’s. On his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. He was also a very talented craftsmen and mechanic for many years.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Lou of 13 years; his children and stepchildren, Travis Hughes, Jeremiah (Jennifer) Hughes, Joe (Vanessa) Carlos, Manny Carlos, Candace (Arturo) Arias, and Cindy Hooten; 3 brothers, Allen (Jeanne) Hughes, Craig (Carol) Hughes and Terri (Sandy) Hughes; a sister, Roxanne Dubiskas; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy and Dorothy Hughes.
Pallbearers will serve as Alex Mancha, Travis Hughes, Jeremiah Hughes, Zayne Arias, Zion Arias, and Zyna Flemming.
Serving as honorary bearers will be Manny Carlos, Anthony Mancha, Craig Hughes, Allen Hughes, Shawn Hooten, Art Arias, Joe Carlos, Nathaniel Hughes, Vincent Hughes, and Terry Hughes.
