Robert (Bob) Leroy MacDonald, 79, longtime resident of Deming passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. Cremation was entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
Bob was born in Sharon, Connecticut on February 16, 1940 Edward and Hazel (Syminton) MacDonald and lived in Amenia, New York for many years, spending his youth working on area farms in the summer and later as a mechanic at the local Ford garage. In his early twenties he began his lifework as a truck driver traveling to 48 states across America and Canada hauling varied freight. Bob was friendly, easy to talk to with, quick to smile, witty and had a wicked sense of humor. He was slow to anger, but that’s not to say it never happened. He readily helped family and friends as well as many stranded strangers he met in his travels. After he retired, he volunteered doing various jobs at the Deming Senior Center.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Linda; 2 children, Wendi and Rob; 4 sisters, Joan, Sally, Sandy and Kathy; a step-son, Shawn; as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel MacDonald; 3 brothers, Jim, Charlie and Rick; a sister, Debbie; as well as his step-father, Frank McDermott.
