Socorro Mercado

Socorro O. Mercado, age 86, she went to be our Lord and Savior on February 7, 2021.  She died as a result of Covid-19.  She was born in Janos, Chihuahua, Mexico to Juan and Refugio Ordonez.  She married Raul Mercado on Christmas Eve 1964.

Visitation will be Saturday morning, February 20, 2021 from 10 to 11 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church where a rosary will begin at 11 o’clock.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 with Fr. Tom Smith officiating.  Concluding services and interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery.

She had many different jobs outside the home, but creating a home for her family was always a priority.  Before moving to Deming, she lived in El Paso where she worked for Levi Company for 10 years.

Our Mom loved crafts and could always embellish anything with her own special flair.  She also loved to bake and was quick to volunteer to bake cookies for any event.  And like a traditional Mexican Mother, she was quick to feed anyone visiting and took great pleasure in planning menus anytime someone was coming to visit.  My Mom loved to dance like to travel to visit family and friends.  And if there was a casino along the way, that made the trip better.

She was a long-time member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church and a Cursillista. 

Socorro is survived by her husband and four children, Laura Wages, Socorro Mercado (fiance Robert Rodriguez), Raul Mercado (Lisa Mercado) and Jerry Mercado (Veronica Mercado); 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  She had many nephews and nieces, all of these she loved and touched deeply.
