It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Susano L, Rodriguez Jr., 83 of Hurley, New Mexico who passed away on July 15, 2026.
Susano was “born in space” in Santa Rita, New Mexico on May 29, 1943 to Susano and Carolina Rodriguez. He was known as ‘Pampo’ and lived a life full, of love, kindness, and dedication to his family and friend.
He was a hard worker, working as an electrician. He began his career at the mine before working with an electrical contractor. He retired from Ft. Bayard Medical Center after 23 years. He made many friends at all his jobs whom he loved and cared for; he held them all close to his heart. He also loved his Dallas Cowboys, when they were winners and losers.
He will always be remembered for his kind heart, loving hugs and his big smile. He was the best husband, dad and above all the best ‘Pampo’.
Susano is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his daughter Melanie Rodriguez (Billy Padilla); two sons, John Rodriguez and Eugene Rodriguez; his grandchildren Violet Gonzales (Benjamin Chavez) Alex Gonzales, and Christina Merritt (Micha Merritt) and his great-grandchildren Miguel Gabriel Chavarria, Ariel Rodriguez, Vito Susano Chavez and, welcomed with open arms, Giovanni and Jeremiah Gonzales; his sisters, Anna Ochoa and Susana Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Susano Rodriguez and Carolina Rodriguez, his in-laws, Manuel and Olivia Rodriguez and his brothers, Johnny and Larry Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held at eight-thirty in the morning on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Silver City. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at nine-thirty. The Funeral Mass will take place immediately thereafter. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow at Hurley Cemetery in Hurley, New Mexico. Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery is officiating.
Pallbearers will be Alex Gonzales, Miguel G. Chavarria, Billy Padilla, Benjamin Chavez, Ernie Reyes, Steve Rodriguez, Aaron Phillips, Rylyn Phillips.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his Godson Ruben Rodriguez, his nephews Steven R. Ochoa, Javier Rodriguez, David Valenzuela and all his cousins and nephews.
