Sylvia Valverde Holguin

Sylvia Valverde Holguin, 86, lifelong resident of Deming passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024 in El Paso, TX.

Visitation will begin Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 9 to 10 o’clock in the morning at Baca’s Funeral Chapel. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will then be recited at 10. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o’clock at St. Ann’s Catholic Church followed by the rite of committal and interment at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Francis Gyau will officiate.

Sylvia was born May 8, 1938 in Deming, NM to Tom Valverde and Josephine Pacheco. Sylvia was an educator for many years. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Western New Mexico University. She began her career as a librarian for Martin school and became a teacher for kindergarten and 1st grade students, teaching in bi-lingual education for Memorial Elementary. Sylvia volunteered to educate the children in Columbus as well as in Palomas, Mexico. Once Sylvia retired from educating, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to be outdoors and having the pleasure of having 4 sons and 4 brothers, Sylvia always wanted to join them during their hunts, camping trips and all outdoor activities they took part in. She also enjoyed singing and dancing and could light up any room she entered she was the life of the party and loved and welcomed anyone and everyone with open arms. Sylvia loved and cared for her little fur babies Tinker and Hope. Her presence will be missed deeply and she will be missed by many.

She leaves behind her 3 sons, Eddie Lee Holguin, Ray Holguin, and Javier (Denise) Holguin; 3 brothers, Tom, Richard (Aurora), and Albert Valverde; her 12 grandchildren, Eddie (Lauren) Holguin Jr., Ray Holguin Jr., Christopher (Deandra) Holguin Jr., Luis Mora, Danielle (Gino) Satriana, Joslyn Holguin, Mariah Holguin, Christin Holguin, Julian Holguin, Mythias Holguin, Jaden Holguin, and Vyanee Holguin; and 5 great-grandchildren, Dominic Holguin, Zoey Holguin, Rhylie Satriana, Bodhi Satriana and Gyanna Holguin. Sylvia is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and other relatives.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Tom, and Josephine Valverde; her spouse, Eddie G. Holguin; a son, Chris Holguin, and a brother Danny Valverde.

Receiving the honor to serve as Sylvia’s pallbearers will be Eddie Holguin Jr., Raymond Holguin Jr., Christopher Holguin Jr., Luis Mora, Julian Holguin, and Mythias Holguin.
