Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Sylvia Rose Velasquez, 59, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2021 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3755 North Swan. A Funeral Service will follow at 10 am. Concluding service and burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Velasquez, Robert Sapien, Lawrence Turrieta, Joshua Turrieta, Alex Zamora and Antonio Maestas. Honorary pallbearers are, Ray Sierra, Isaac Delgado, David Ozuna, Aaron Montgomery and Adam Muniz.
Sylvia was born on September 19, 1961 in Silver City to Pete B. Turrieta and Violet Maestas Turrieta. She was a quiet and caring person and worked as a caregiver for many years. Sylvia enjoyed cooking, baking, drinking coffee and going to church. She loved being at the beach, going for rides, shopping, dancing, listening to oldies and Spanish music. Sylvia also enjoyed being around her family, grandchildren and spending time in Albuquerque with her sister. She was an auntie to everyone and she will be forever missed by all those who knew her and loved her.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jose Velasquez; children, Robert Velasquez (Melissa), Veronica Velasquez (Adam), Andrea Montgomery (Aaron) and Jessica Velasquez (David); sister, Denise Sierra (Ray); grandchildren, Brealle, Andrew, Janayah, Carlos, Jesus, Seth, Abigail, Vincent, Gage, and Esmia; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Violet Turrieta; brother, Peter Lawrence Turrieta.
