Valerie D. (McCulloch) Johnson

Valerie D. Johnson, 68, resident of Elephant Butte, NM passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Assisted Living Facility in Las Cruces, NM.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapel in Deming, NM. Pastor Mark Boggs will officiate. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.

Valerie was born November 15, 1953 in Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota to Jerry Lee and Sammie Lou (Vickers) McCulloch. She grew up with her family in Amarillo, TX where she graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1972. She excelled in school and was active in cheerleading, drama, and student council. She was extremely grateful of her fellow students electing her as Miss Palo Duro High School. Valerie met the love of her life Ronnie Johnson while working at Levi Strauss and they were married on April 2, 1983. They relocated shortly after to Anthony, NM where they raised their daughter Jessica and many pets. Valerie was a brilliant and dedicated businesswoman. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Mansfield Business School, and found her calling as a Realtor for Coldwell Banker. Her passion was helping people find their forever home. She retired to Elephant Butte, NM in 2012 where she enjoyed spending time at the lake boating, skiing, and reading. She had an intense love for animals and treated her pets like family. Her love was absolutely endless for her family and friends and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Johnson of Elephant Butte, NM; 2 children, Ryan Johnson of Amarillo, TX and Jessica (Benjamin) Etcheverry of Deming, NM; 2 sisters, Janie (Jerry) Mechell of Arlington, TX and Shelly Albright of Amarillo, TX; as well as her 3 grandchildren.

Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Sammie McCulloch and a brother, Jerry McCulloch.
